About High Road Tattoo & Piercing

High Road Tattoo & Piercing opened July 1, 2025 at 156 Swanton Road in St. Albans. Owner Matthew Flanagan has been tattooing in Franklin County since 2003, longer than most of the shops around here have existed.

Matt grew up here. Got a blue mohawk. Discovered punk music. Found tattooing right out of high school and hasn't stopped since. 

High Road is that something. Three artist stations, a barber, and a piercing shop inside a commercial space on Swanton Road that Flanagan had been driving past his entire career. He got the keys in June 2025 and opened the doors a few weeks later.

The name means a few things. Taking the high road in art and in life. Mountain road riding, Matt's been on two wheels for years. And yes, the other kind of high road too.

The plan for this place is bigger than just tattoos. Flanagan has talked about art shows in the parking lot, live punk music, and making High Road a hub for the alternative creative community in Franklin County. The kind of place that gives another blue-mohawked kid somewhere to land.
